Air Sentry®

Two Stage Filtration Extending Equipment Lifespan.

One research group found that more than 75% of all machine wear related failures were due to particulate contaminants. Frequently, the greatest cost of equipment failure is not the component replacement cost, but the labor production downtime.

Most particles starts out as dirt that becomes airborne, then find its way into lubricant and fuel reservoirs, and is later transported to bearings, bushings, seals, valves, and other machine components. There they become key ingredients in abrasion, erosion, and fatigue failures. The contaminants also cause lubricant degradation, shortening the life of the lubricant and decreasing its ability to lubricate.

Since 1997, Air Sentry® desiccant breathers have set the standard for contamination control, revolutionizing breather technology with state-of-the-art features designed to minimize particulate and moisture contamination. As pioneers in the industry, Air Sentry was the first to introduce check valve technology and replaceable desiccant/filter cartridges—innovations that cut maintenance costs and extend machine lifespan

Here's how they work

Air Sentry® desiccant breathers are a type of filter designed to protect equipment from moisture and particulate contamination, particularly in harsh industrial environments like mining. These breathers are often used to replace standard breather caps on hydraulic systems, gearboxes, and other fluid-filled equipment.

Two-Stage Filtration:

They typically have a primary filter to remove larger particles and a desiccant bed, usually silica gel, to absorb moisture.

  • Contamination Control:

This two-stage filtration system helps to prevent moisture and other contaminants from entering the fluid system, reducing wear and tear on equipment.

  • Extended Equipment Lifespan:

By controlling contamination, Air Sentry breathers can extend the life of hydraulic and lubrication systems, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

  • Color-Changing Silica Gel:

Many Air Sentry breathers use color-changing silica gel, which visually indicates when the desiccant is saturated and needs to be replaced.

  • Various Applications:

They're suitable for a wide range of applications, including mining equipment, earthmoving machinery, wind power, and other industrial settings.

The Air Sentry® Product Range

The line consists of Good, Better and Best options designed to meet your specific application and duration specifications.

Air Sentry® Clear View Visual Indicator

Air Sentry desiccant breathers utilize a color-changing silica gel to indicate when it's time to replace the breather cartridge. The silica gel begins as gold or orange when new and turns to a dark green color as it absorbs moisture. This color change provides a visual cue that the desiccant is saturated and needs to be replaced.

  • New Cartridge:

When the breather cartridge is new, the silica gel is a gold or orange color.

  • Moisture Absorption:

As the breather operates, the silica gel adsorbs moisture from the air that passes through it.

  • Color Change:

As the silica gel absorbs moisture, it changes color, transitioning from gold/orange to a dark green color.

  • Replacement:

The dark green color indicates that the silica gel is saturated and no longer effectively absorbing moisture. It's time to replace the cartridge.

As the color indicating silica gel adsorbs moisture it changes from gold to dark green. When the silica gel is adsorbed to its capacity (approximately 40% of its original weight), the breather has fully turns dark green
